]]> The Large Hadron Collider at CERN is a 27KM long particle accelerator, and home to the ATLAS detector – a huge, 7000 tonne experiment located 100M underground.

The associated electronic control and data acquisition systems are housed in many 19” racks, all of which require constant cooling. Verotec have been selected to design & manufacture a minimum of 50 special ventilation chassis, each required to house 2 x tangential fans (also known as a crossflow blowers) and provide magnetic shielding to the electrical motors.

Designed to work in ambient air temperatures between –5°C and + 50 °C the units produce a laminar, sheet-like airflow evenly across the desired area (rather than a concentrated stream) and operate at very low acoustic noise levels.

]]> MIL-STD-167 specifies the requirements and procedures for vibration testing of equipment used aboard naval vessels. Shock and vibration are critical considerations when packaging electronic systems for marine and naval applications.

Verotec has designed and delivered prototype Eurocard-based systems using our MIL-STD-167-compliant KM6 heavy-duty subrack system for use onboard a frigate.

The 6U aluminium, rack-mounting enclosure houses 15 plug-in PCBs, a backplane and power supply, and is supplied with a compliment of machined and printed front panel assemblies.

]]> Critical infrastructure demands highly reliable, redundant power systems to ensure continuous operation and minimise downtime. Verotec was recently commissioned to design, manufacture, and test a prototype high-availability power supply for a nuclear power station, delivering ±24VDC to support a critical control system.

Developed in close collaboration with the customer, the 3U, 19-inch rack-mounted unit incorporates dual AC power inputs, N+1 redundant DC power outputs, comprehensive status indication, and relay monitoring with failure alarm outputs, ensuring maximum system resilience and reliability.

Beyond meeting the functional specification, the project also addressed stringent environmental (IP and EMC), safety (EN62368), and regulatory requirements. Every aspect was delivered through Verotec’s structured, project-led engineering approach, resulting in a robust solution tailored to the demands of a critical infrastructure environment.

The 12U, rack-mount chassis houses up to 21 x 6U VME64x boards in a secure & EMC compliant environment whilst delivering in excess of 1.2KW of power. Optimized cooling is achieved from two, independent, filtered fan trays that deliver airflow in a push-pull configuration.
