In support of one of the many associated projects, Verotec have this month delivered a batch of 20 Slot VME64 Extensions backplanes. Often used in defence applications, VMEbus is a tried & tested, rugged computing platform which dates back to the ‘80s, and has since undergone a number of enhancements including “Extensions” to provide additional features in response to increasing user demands.

Modifications to the backplane included specially machined pockets to facilitate the mounting of bespoke connectors, whilst conduction cooled card guides were fitted in selected slots to allow a mix of standard and rugged VME cards to be used.

A number of modules and machined front panels were also supplied to provide the necessary I/O connections.

The Ice protection control unit for Airbus’s A340 & A380 aircraft – utilises Verotec’s strong yet lightweight extruded Aluminium KM6-II subrack system, providing protection to the electronics within whilst meeting harsh environmental and physical requirements in terms of weight and heat dissipation.

Manufacturing has to be precise, so that the finished product is supplied within tolerance, which is one of the reasons Verotec conduct full First Article Inspection Reports on all the individual elements.
